Our Kitchen Garden
Welcome to our kitchen garden! This is the space right outside our kitchen door where we’ll grow food that gets tended to, harvested, and used on a regular basis. We’ll be growing food in a permaculture approach (which means a lot of perennial plants), but we’ll have an annual plant garden here as well!
What is a Kitchen Garden?
A kitchen garden is an area of the farm set aside for herbs, fruits, and vegetables used regularly in the kitchen.
We hope to someday fill our kitchen garden with an herb spiral, fruits, vegetables, and leafy greens. It will also be a place where we hang out with our friends and family and enjoy nature.
We will likely need to put a deer fence around our kitchen garden as we have incredibly aggressive deer.
Our Kitchen Design Plan:
Our kitchen garden is in orange on the map here.
Here are some of our plans for this space:
- Deer-proof fencing
- Herb Spiral
- Trellis for shade – hardy kiwi maybe? or grapes?
- Annual garden for things like tomatoes, beans, etc. (things deer will eat if I put them elsewhere)
- Strawberries (my kids eat these like crazy, they won’t make it into the kitchen)
